Since operations began in 2003, Flörsheim-Wicker Biomass Power Plant has been generating environmentally-friendly energy from waste timber. By analogy with the biomass power plants in Mannheim and Königs Wusterhausen, at Flörsheim-Wicker we generate environmentally-friendly energy from regenerative resources. The plant is operated by our MVV Umwelt O&M subsidiary.
Highly efficient generation of energy from waste timber
Our biomass power plants mainly consist of the following operations: timber treatment with separation of metals, firing, boiler, electricity generation and waste gas cleaning. The timber supplied is itemised, broken up and conveyed to incineration following interim storage in the fuel silo. The power plants in Mannheim und Flörsheim-Wicker work with spreader-suspension type firing.
Good transport links
Our locations in Mannheim, Königs Wusterhausen and Flörsheim-Wicker have superb transport links. This is a particularly important factor, as waste timber can only be economically transported to a limited extent.
Market integration of renewable energies
With the market premium model, the Federal Ministry of the Environment introduced an alternative model for marketing green electricity at the beginning of 2012. On this basis, we integrate the electricity generated at our biomass power plants directly into the market.
