A showcase for the energy turnaround

In "Living Lab Walldorf" we are presenting the energy supply of the future

In "Living Lab Walldorf" we are presenting the energy supply of the future

The smart integration of more highly decentralised energy generation with local electricity consumption is a factor that is set to play a major role in future. What structures we will require, what needs customers will have and what legal framework we will need – these are the questions we are addressing in the "Living Lab Walldorf" project launched in December 2015. The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Environment is promoting the project as part of its BWPLUS programme.

Drawing on findings of “Electricity Bank”

Together with our project partners, our shareholding Beegy (Mannheim), KEO (Cologne), Stadtwerke Walldorf, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the FZI Research Center for Information Technology, we are working with smart technology to create a network of around 40 households and businesses in Walldorf. This involves integrating generators, such as photovoltaics systems and combined heat and power (CHP) generation units, and consumers. These players are supplemented by a central electricity storage facility like that used in our Electricity Bank. The findings of this successful project have been channelled into the "Living Lab"

Local population closely involved

Close dialogue with the local population and participants is one of the key success factors for this project. Their wishes and needs have been factored into the contents of the "Living Lab".
