Growing on regional roots
MVV Energie AG: a publicly listed, municipal energy supplier
Our company can look back on a long history as a local and regional supplier to the City of Mannheim and the entire Rhine/Neckar metropolitan region. The company has come a very long way from its roots – the takeover of the municipal gas works in 1873 – to its current position as a modern, listed energy company with activities across Germany. Today, the company has around 2,000 employees in the city and surrounding region. We are a nationwide group of companies with international operations and a current total of around 6,000 employees. Together, these companies generated annual sales of around Euro 4 billion in the 2017 financial year.
We have municipal roots
As a company, we continue to be influenced by our origins. As majority owner, the City of Mannheim guarantees stability and close links between the company, local councils, and the people we supply with energy and water. We are a fixed part of local society at all of our locations and are involved in supporting sport, culture, social welfare, science and education.
District heating as key success story
Our group of companies covers the whole range of modern, sustainable utility services in many regions. We thus supply our customers with electricity, natural gas and water. One activity we are particularly committed to is district heating. This heating energy is exclusively produced from efficient cogeneration, thus saving around 500,000 tonnes of CO2 a year.
Top energy from waste player
Our group of companies is one of Germany’s leading operators of energy from waste and biomass plants. We are also documenting our expertise here in the UK and will be doing so in France as well in future
Our energy from waste activities are of nationwide significance. Here, we are one of the leading players in Germany and are also expanding our activities abroad, notably in the UK and the Czech Republic. Our activities in this business field all began at the cogeneration plant on Friesenheim Island in Mannheim.back to top
