juwi completes 135 Megawatt Solar Park in India

Biggest single project in the company’s history / Project confirms status as one of the top global EPC contractors

250 Megawatt EPC-portfolio signed in South Africa / New business activities in Australia

The juwi group, one of the world's leading renewable energy development companies, today announced that it has completed construction of a 135 megawatt (MW) DC utility-scale solar power plant for Energon Soleq Ravi India Power Resources Pvt Ltd. The plant covers an area of 243 hectares and is situated near the village of Guttigoli (Belgaum district) in the southern part of Karnataka, India. It is expected to generate more than 226 million kilowatt-hours of electricity each year, enough to avoid the emission of 122,743 tons of carbon dioxide annually. Operation and maintenance of the solar power plant will be performed by juwi India, which provides maintenance, monitoring and reporting services. With this project, juwi India’s current total O&M portfolio has become 347 MWp and is expected to cross 500 MWp by this year’s end.

“Utility scale solar PV has become the most cost-effective source of energy in many parts of the world. The juwi group is globally very well positioned and one of the top renewable energy project developer and EPC service providers. The high quality construction of the 135 megawatt solar project emphasizes our striving for operational excellence in EPC”, juwi-COO Stephan Hansen commented. Within the juwi group Hansen is responsible for the company’s international business.

Good news is also coming from the South African renewable energy market, where juwi was able to finalize the contracts for building a portfolio of 250 megawatts as the company has been selected preferred EPC contractor to three utility-scale PV projects in bidding round 4. “We are expecting financial close for these projects by the end of July. We also signed the contract with our client for the sale of our self-developed 138-Megawatt wind-farm Garob in the Northern Cape. We are expecting financial close for this project by the end of August”, Hansen says.

In Australia juwi expands its solar PV project development activities and accelerates the entry into utility scale solar PV projects in Victoria and New South Wales. The company recently launched a request for proposals seeking to acquire large-scale solar projects from developers and landowners in the respective states.
At the same time the company is pursuing multiple hybrid opportunities in the mining segment building on the successful 10.6 megawatt solar plus 6 megawatt battery system at the DeGrussa Copper-Gold Mine. The project is still a world leading solar-diesel-battery off-grid system and one of the largest renewable energy systems installed on a mine so far.
