“The energy industry continues to operate in a challenging economic and political climate. Geopolitical conflicts, a macroeconomic slowdown and an unwillingness on the part of customers to invest: These factors are currently shaping our market. We are responding by consistently developing our company further to ensure that we can implement our strategy with economic success in future as well and reliably help structure the energy transition”, commented Dr. Gabriël Clemens, Chief Executive Officer of MVV Energie AG (ISIN: DE000A0H52F5; WKN: A0H52F), upon publication of the company’s results for the first nine months of the 2026 financial year (1 October 2025 – 30 June 2026).

Adjusted sales at the Mannheim-based energy company amounted to Euro 4.3 billion in the period under report (previous year: Euro 4.9 billion). The year-on-year reduction in sales was mainly due to lower wholesale gas prices and lower turnover with gas and electricity.

Consistent with expectations, the operating earnings (adjusted EBIT) of Euro 225 million also fell short of the previous year’s figure (Euro 323 million). The Customer Solutions and Generation and Infrastructure reporting segments in particular posted lower earnings. Thanks above all to higher earnings from wind turbines and the project development business, overall earnings in the New Energies reporting segment were slightly ahead of the previous year’s figure. By contrast, reduced plant availability in the environmental energy business, which was due among other factors to boiler damage at the energy from waste plant in Mannheim, had a correspondingly negative impact on earnings.

In view of its earnings performance to date, MVV is making a slight amendment to the forecast range for its full-year earnings. From an operating perspective, the energy company expects MVV’s adjusted EBIT for the 2026 financial year to amount to between Euro 190 million and Euro 225 million.

Further developed schedule for #climatepositive course

The difficult climate in the energy industry is not only impacting on the company’s current business performance. It is also affecting the pace at which the energy transition is currently advancing. States Clemens: “The developments in energy policy seen in recent years have mostly moved in the right direction. At the same time, the framework required to take long-term investment decisions is still not in place in important areas. And that means companies are hesitant and customers noncommittal.”

In light of these challenges, MVV has reviewed and further developed its ambitious schedule for achieving its climate targets: “We still intend to combine climate protection with economic common sense and supply reliability. That is why we now aim to become #climatepositive as a company if possible by 2040”, added the company’s CEO.

In this, MVV is consistently pressing ahead with the energy system transformation and invested a total of Euro 497 million in the first nine months of the current financial year. Investments were channelled above all into climate-friendly heat and electricity generation, expanding and modernising distribution grids and building the new energy from waste plant in Wisbech in the UK.

“We are amending our schedule but not our ambition. We will continue to make a reliable contribution to a secure, climate-friendly and affordable energy supply in future as well”, stressed Clemens in conclusion.
