A new efficient energy from waste solution at Baldovie, Dundee
Making more use of the energy in Dundee and Angus’s residual waste
Having signed a long term contract with Dundee City and Angus Councils, MVV are responsible for using the Councils’ residual waste (that is waste which is left over after recycling) to generate electrical power in the existing facility at Baldovie. At the same time, we are building a new, state of the art, Energy from Waste Combined Heat and Power Facility directly adjacent to the existing facility. This new development will use around 110,000 tonnes of waste per year to generate electricity as well as steam for the local industry in a highly efficient process called Combined Heat and Power (CHP). This makes best use of the energy stored in the waste and reduces significantly local emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants.
Planning permission was granted by Dundee City Council on 24th March 2017. Currently we are in the process of achieving an Environmental Permit from the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA). Construction is planned to begin in 2018, with the finished plant being commissioned in 2020.back to top
