Careers with MVV

At MVV, we know that our people are our greatest resource. Across our UK businesses we currently employ almost 150 highly trained staff to operate, support and manage our waste treatment facilities. We provide modern, sustainable and efficient solutions for waste reduction, energy generation and recycling.

For the operation and maintenance of our facilities, we always aim to recruit locally and offer a friendly and challenging work environment. We encourage innovation and personal development amongst our employees with regular training and advancement opportunities.

We are an accredited Living Wage employer, meaning that every employee working for MVV in the UK will earn a real living wage. The real Living Wage is higher than the government’s minimum, or National Living Wage, and is an independently calculated hourly rate of pay that is based on the actual cost of living. It is calculated each year and is announced by the Living Wage Foundation as part of Living Wage Week. It is currently £9.90 in the UK, with a higher rate of £11.05 for London, reflecting the higher costs of living in the capital.

Career development

  • MVV is committed to supporting employment opportunities for local residents, students studying for academic qualifications related to our industry and young people looking to enter the labour market for the first time. We aim to provide a meaningful experience that will improve skills and employability prospects.

Work experience placements usually last for 1-2 weeks and are arranged through local secondary schools, colleges or universities. Students will not be paid and are expected to shadow and observe experienced personnel, rather than carrying out specific tasks or projects.

  • MVV is committed to supporting employment opportunities for local residents, students studying for academic qualifications related to our industry and young people looking to enter the labour market for the first time. We aim to provide a meaningful experience that will improve skills and employability prospects.

Internships can last from 6 weeks to 12 months but are generally for a 3-month period. These will be based on a specific project agreed with the intern and MVV; they can be offered to under-graduate, graduate or post-graduate students during holiday periods, year-in-industry periods or following completion of their academic studies.

Interns are classed as workers because they undertake business tasks rather than just shadowing or observing. As an accredited Living Wage Employer, we will therefore pay all interns the Living Wage, irrespective of their age.

If you are interested in internship opportunities with MVV please contact recruitment@remove-this.mvvuk.co.uk for more information.

  • MVV is committed to supporting apprenticeship opportunities in areas related to our industry. We participate in the local councils’ Shared Apprenticeship Scheme in Dundee and Angus as well as providing funding to support and add value to existing apprenticeship programmes with other local employers in Plymouth.

We also aim to develop our own in-house apprenticeship schemes in the areas of waste management, engineering and business through existing links with colleges local to our facilities.

If you are interested in apprenticeship opportunities with MVV please contact recruitment@remove-this.mvvuk.co.uk for more information.

  • MVV is committed to realising the full potential of all individuals working across our UK sites. All staff are provided with a personalised training plan, relevant to their role within our organisation. In addition to this, staff are encouraged to identify their own training and development aspirations. We value and support promotion within our UK businesses.

Employee benefits

  • All employees who meet the eligibility criteria will be automatically enrolled into the MVV Group Personal Pension Plan with Scottish Widows 3 months after joining the Company. Employees can access their individual pension accounts online and have full control over investment strategies and options.

  • All employees will be enrolled into the Healthcare Cash-plan with WPA following the first payroll after their start date. Employees will receive a scheme membership booklet and registration certificate detailing their membership number. The cash-plan allows employees to reclaim certain healthcare costs (e.g. dental, optical) within the policy limits. Additionally, there is access to a remote GP service and telephone-based Employee Assistance Programme.

  • MVV operates a discretionary Performance Related Bonus Scheme based on Company and personal performance and the achievement of pre-agreed targets. Two targets are based on MVV Company performance where EBIT (Earnings Before Interest and Tax) is at or above the business plan target; a third target is based on overall appraisal rating and four additional personal performance targets complete the annual appraisal process.

  • The Group Life Assurance scheme is operated by AIG on behalf of MVV. If an employee dies whilst employed by MVV and they are aged under 70 at the time, their dependents will receive a payment of 4 times the employee’s base salary, subject to the rules of the scheme.

  • MVV has set up an Income Protection (Sick Pay) Plan with AIG. If an employee is unable to work as a result of illness or injury for more than 26 weeks, they may be able to receive up to 75% of their base salary for up to 5 years (subject to policy conditions). If the absence is deemed to be long-term, a referral may be made to a vocational rehabilitation service to facilitate their return to work where relevant.

  • Through our partners, StC Payroll Giving, employees can choose to make a donation to any UK registered charity of their choice via payroll. This allows both the employee and the chosen charity or charities to benefit from significant tax savings. MVV have undertaken to pay the administration fee for this service so the entire donation amount will go straight to the charity on a regular basis.

We have received the Bronze Payroll Giving Quality Mark Award from the Charities Trust. This award recognises the generosity of our UK staff in making regular donations to charities of their choice, giving these organisations the security of a known monthly income. Our commitment to the Payroll Giving scheme continues.

  • Employees can make significant savings on the cost of a commuter bike and accessories by using MVV’s cycle to work scheme. This is a salary sacrifice initiative introduced by the Government and managed for us by Cyclescheme. Employees can spread the cost of their cycling equipment over 12 months by deduction from payroll.

  • MVV offers a comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme through AIG Lifeworks. Employees can access many online resources relating to family, health, money, life and work issues via their website. This is a totally confidential service and no-one will know that the available support has been accessed.
