Management of MVV Umwelt subgroup complete once again

Dr. Christian Hower-Knobloch, to date Director of Company Development at STEAG, appointed as new Commercial Director at subsidiary of Mannheim-based MVV

The management of the Mannheim-based company MVV Umwelt is now complete once again. From 1 October 2019, the new Managing Director for Market and Commercial Affairs will be Dr. Christian Hower-Knobloch. Previously Director of Company Development at STEAG GmbH in Essen, Dr. Hower-Knobloch will manage MVV Umwelt’s business together with Dr. Joachim Manns. He will thus succeed Martin Becker-Rethmann, who left the com-pany at the end of April.

Aged 41, Dr. Hower-Knobloch has held a variety of group positions at STEAG for more than ten years. Most recently, the qualified lawyer and economist acted as Director of Company Development, in which role he was responsible for group strategy and M&A activities, as well as for developing energy projects in South-East Asia. In 2016, he played a key role in STEAG’s re-entry into the waste business and assumed the management of the newly founded company STEAG Waste to Energy GmbH through to 2018. Before moving to the energy industry, he worked as a consultant lawyer at a commercial law firm in Hannover.

“With Dr. Christian Hower-Knobloch we have gained a specialist from the German and inter-national energy and waste industry for our important subsidiary”, stressed MVV’s Technical Director Dr. Hansjörg Roll. “The expertise and experience available in the management team mean we have secured a basis for continuity and innovation, all with the aim of ensuring the ongoing forward-looking development of MVV Umwelt.”

“I am very much looking forward to the exciting business challenge of working at a successful group of companies. After all, with its strategy focused on successfully implementing the en-ergy turnaround, MVV is one of Germany’s leading energy companies. I am also looking for-ward to working together with all colleagues and employees on a basis of trust”, commented Dr. Hower-Knobloch in an initial statement.

MVV pools its renewable and conventional energy generation activities at MVV Umwelt. The group of companies currently has installed electricity generation capacities of around 500 megawatts for renewables. These particularly involve wind power, biomass and biogas. At the same time, the company is one of Germany’s leading players in energy from waste and combined heat and power generation and has annual incineration capacities of around two million tonnes. It benefits here from a track record of competence and experience built up over more than 50 years. With around 500 employees, MVV Umwelt operates two waste-fired power plants and disposes of industrial waste as well as the non-recyclable waste for a total of 19 local authorities with around four million inhabitants. It also operates three biomass power plants. Furthermore, in the UK the company has two waste-fired power plants in Plymouth and Dundee and a biomass power plant at Ridham Dock.
