Biowaste is a valuable energy resource
Biowaste fermentation plant for Bernburg (Saxony-Anhalt)
In Bernburg (Saxony-Anhalt) we are currently planning a modern digestion plant for biowaste. This plant produces environmentally friendly biogas from everything that belongs in the organic waste bin - and thus sustainable energy.
The digestion plant is to be built in the industrial estate West with a direct connection to the motorway. The investment volume is around 20 million euros. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2019. From 2020, the plant is to process around 33,000 tonnes of biowaste from Bernburg and the surrounding area annually. At the same time, the bio-fermentation plant avoids the emission of climate-damaging emissions compared to the conventional open composting of biowaste. This saves around 7,900 tons of CO2 per year. This corresponds to around 44 million car kilometres.
In the plant, bacteria decompose the organic waste in the absence of air without gas escaping into the atmosphere. All containers in the system are gas- and odour-proof. An efficient extraction process cleans both the receiving area and the entire hall air. All exhaust air is cleaned in a modern biofilter. In addition to the benefits for the environment, the project also creates security of supply and disposal and strengthens added value in the region.back to top
